Our programSeptember to December - Oral Language Development is our prime focus.
Through a balanced literacy approach we focus on French sounds, vocabulary building, listening skills and reading and writing simple phrases that build upon one another.
1. A typical morning would look like this: The morning routine will consist of gathering together for circle time where I would teach them a greeting, ask them how they are feeling, teach them the days of the weeks/months of the year, the daily weather and finally talk about the day's schedule.
2. Following this routine they will learn the daily morning message (phrase) that they will practice with me, together as a class, with a partner etc... they require a lot of modelling at this point which means they will have the opportunity to practice the morning message several times.
3. Then the children will read the morning message from a prepared smart board lesson and view illustrations, videos and songs/poems that help emphasize the message being learned.
4. Next comes the writing component. The children will be given a chance to write the morning message to consolidate what they have learned.
The morning routine flows quite nicely with: listening, speaking, reading then writing
January to June
In January the children are now ready to tackle more specific vocabulary therefore Science and Social Studies will be added into the daily schedule.
Remember... Your child is now in the Immersion Program and will only be receiving 2 hours English instruction per week including 30 minutes of independent reading (total of 2 hours/30 minutes). This instructions includes: a social studies unit, a science unit, multiple intelligence lessons, writing instruction, projects etc...
